Worked practice examples
There are 7 bags with 6 marbles in each. How many marbles?
7 equal groups of 6 give 7 × 6 = 42 marbles. The related division facts are 42 ÷ 7 = 6 and 42 ÷ 6 = 7.
Pack 29 books into boxes that hold 6 each. How many boxes are needed?
29 ÷ 6 = 4 remainder 5. Four boxes hold 24 books, leaving 5 books. One more box is needed, so use 5 boxes.
How to use this practice
Use arrays, counters or drawings before emphasizing quick recall. Ask what the remainder means in the story: sometimes it is left over, sometimes it becomes a fraction, and sometimes it requires another whole container. Parents can narrow practice to the skill that needs attention.
